Visa questions
How long does a residence visa take?
Roughly two to four weeks from the entry permit being issued, assuming you are in the country for the medical and biometrics. The sequence is entry permit, status change or entry on the permit, medical fitness test, Emirates ID biometrics, then visa stamping.
What is the medical test?
A mandatory fitness screening: a blood test and a chest x-ray, done at an approved centre. Results usually come back within a few days. Certain communicable diseases result in a visa being refused, and this is set by law rather than by any consultant.
Can I sponsor my wife, husband and children?
Yes, once your own residency is issued. You will need attested marriage and birth certificates, a minimum salary or income level, and appropriate accommodation. Sons are usually sponsored until age 25, daughters until they marry, and parents are possible under a higher income threshold.
Will I lose my visa if I leave the UAE?
A standard residence visa lapses if you remain outside the UAE for more than six consecutive months. Golden Visa holders have far more flexibility. This is separate from tax residency, which has its own tests.
Am I eligible for a Golden Visa?
It depends on the category: property investors above a threshold value, entrepreneurs with an approved project, specialised talent in certain fields, outstanding students, and some senior professionals. Criteria are updated periodically. We check your eligibility honestly before you pay anything, because rejected applications are expensive.
Do I need health insurance?
Yes. Health insurance is mandatory for residence visa holders in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and it must be in place before the visa is issued. Budget for it separately, it is not included in a licence package.
